Sources and attribution
Curivra publishes only from the sources below: U.S. Government agencies, other governments and public bodies whose licences or terms allow reuse (the UK Open Government Licence, the Open Government Licence – Canada, the European Commission's reuse decision, the European Food Safety Authority's reuse terms, the South African government news agency's terms, and the State of California's statement that its sites' information is in the public domain), and open-access journals and preprint metadata under Creative Commons licences. Some journals' articles are read through Crossref's open metadata service, and only articles whose own licence is CC BY 4.0 are used. Curivra uses only each publisher's own text, under the licence named for it: contractor or partner content, news-agency copy, quotations, images and third-party material are not used. Every card names its source and links to the original.
Some cards are data cards: one fixed sentence that Curivra fills from the facts of a licensed record (a match score, a company's reported quarterly figure, a product alert, a TV schedule entry, a new music release), checked against that record by an independent verifier. They come from the European Commission's Safety Gate, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission's public filings data, the community databases OpenLigaDB (Open Database License) and nflverse (CC BY 4.0), TVmaze (CC BY-SA 4.0: cards made from TVmaze data are shared under the same licence), Liquipedia (CC BY-SA 3.0, esports results; those cards are shared under CC BY-SA 3.0) and MusicBrainz with ListenBrainz (CC0, new music releases by artists with at least 2,000 ListenBrainz listeners). OpenLigaDB, Liquipedia and MusicBrainz are maintained by volunteers; their facts are checked against their own record, not against a second source.
How cards are published
- Automatic: a fixed template writes the card from the source's own figures, names and times, and a separate automatic check compares every one of them with the stored source record before publication. Statistics cards quote the agency's own summary sentences; Curivra computes, rounds or rephrases nothing. When a check fails, when automation is paused or when the item needs judgement (possible casualties, the most dangerous weather warnings, corrections or revisions by the agency, figures the agency marks as not statistically significant), an editor approves the card instead, or it is not published.
- Automatic newsroom and research cards: the headline is the item's own title and the summary is the item's own opening sentences (for a study, its conclusion or findings), word for word, at most 60 words, never a quotation. The card always says whose words they are: "The European Commission said on October 28: …", "A study published in PLOS One on October 28: …" or "A research preprint posted on arXiv … (not peer-reviewed)". Headlines from political and government newsrooms carry the publisher's name ("White House: …", "Proposed rule: …"). An item that accuses or names people in a case, reports deaths or violence, makes health or efficacy claims, or (from a political office) reports no concrete act, is approved by an editor instead.
- Each card approved by an editor: the card is drafted from the release by a fixed template, and an editor checks it against the release before it is published.
- Each summary written by an editor: an editor writes a short summary of the agency's release, attributes every claim to the agency and checks it before publication.
No generative AI writes or edits any card.

U.S. Government works are in the U.S. public domain (17 U.S.C. §105). The other sources are used under the licence named in their credit line, which every card shows. Credit is given as each publisher requests. Curivra is not affiliated with, and not endorsed by, any of these publishers.
Rules for every card
- The source is named in plain text on the card and in its ⋯ sheet, with the source's publication time and, in the sheet, the card's published and updated dates.
- Every card links to the original. A card without a credit line or link cannot be published.
- No agency logos, seals, emblems or insignia are used.
- No "official", "approved by" or "in partnership with" wording about any source.
- No images from sources are shown.
- Weather cards say they are not official warnings and point to weather.gov; they leave the feed when the alert ends. Statistics cards name the release date and the period the figures describe, and leave the feed after 7 days. Newsroom and research cards name the publisher and the date, and leave the feed after 7 days.
- No source outside this list is used. Third-party material (news-agency copy, partner articles, company announcements, images) is excluded rather than credited.
